Why We Watch: A New Media Channel By Fans, For Fans

From a media writing assignment to an active blog and fan-made media channel, Why We Watch exists to help inspire fans to create content for themselves.

Why We Watch started as an assignment in Survey of Animation at Alfred State where we'd just write our thoughts on what was screened that day. In between the first and second semester at Alfred, I kept it going, and going, and going. My writing got better and it kept me connected to film, as I started taking business classes.

Then in my final semester at New Paltz, I took an Entrepreneurship in Arts & Music class, and the blog became a full site and YouTube channel. That semester was spent putting all the pieces together and expanding them into a brand.

Most importantly, I found a reason outside of myself for this former journal/coping mechanism, and that is to encourage others to make something like a Why We Watch of their own, dissect the media they love, and push themselves creatively because everyone should be able to do this if they have the desire to.
